Gateway to College
The 2Gethers Foundation's Gateway to College Program is open to first-generation high school (juniors and seniors) and college students. Students are classified as first-generation if neither of their parent(s) or guardian(s) obtained a bachelor's degree. The program encompasses a series of educational initiatives that help students to effectively and affordably gain access to college.
Scholarship Program
The 2Gethers Foundation awards annual scholarships to graduating first-generation high school seniors who have been accepted into an institution of higher learning. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, have student leadership/volunteer experience, and write a 750 word essay introducing themselves, their family structure, career goals and/or interests, share any challenges that they have faced and how they have worked to overcome them, and describe the impact that a college degree would have on them and their family.
To date, we have awarded a total of $45,000 in scholarships.

Workshops
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Completion Workshop
Participants in this workshop will be walked step-by-step through completing the FAFSA. Before completion of the FAFSA, they will learn how to maximize their financial aid package. Participants should bring all necessary financial documents (e.g. w-2s, latest tax return, etc.). Parents are encouraged to attend.

Participants in this workshop will learn how to plan and launch a strategic scholarship search. Pertinent tools and resources will be provided to help participants find viable scholarships from multiple reputable sources. Participants should bring a laptop.

Session II - Writing a Winning Scholarship Essay
Participants will learn how to develop a compelling story highlighting their unique strengths. They will walk away with tips and strategies for making them a competitive scholarship applicant. A laptop or pen and paper is required for brainstorming purposes.

First Family (Parent Workshop)
Having a student who is the first member of a family to attend college brings a great sense of pride. In the First Family Parent workshop, parents will learn about challenges their children may face as first-generation students. Parents will also be equipped with tools and strategies on how to support their children during their transition to college, as well as how to help their children defeat difficult challenges. This workshop is for parents of students who will be the first in their families to attend college.

Pop-Up Mobile Food Pantries
The 2 Gethers Foundation aid to combat food insecurity on college campuses by offering free groceries to current college students in need. Food insecurity is defined as the lack of consistent access to sufficient quantities of affordable, nutritious food. Food insecurity is a common epidemic in colleges and universities across the nation and it poses as a threat to students' educational quality and student success. We are committed to helping to keep under-resourced college students focused on their studies by supplying them with the basic need of food. The 2Gethers Foundation partner with colleges and universities, currently in the Greater Chicagoland area and Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex area, to provide pop-up food pantries on college campuses twice a semester. The pop-up food pantries supplies canned goods, non-perishable food items, and non-food items such as deodorant, toothpaste, and toilet paper.
